Rumaan Alam is an American novelist. The book was a finalist for the National Book Award and was filmed by Netflix with Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali.

A good fit if you like slowly rising dread and novels about class, race and trust. What unsettles readers most is that the book never explains itself.
